  • Due to the rain, today’s Mitchell Park cleanup will be postponed

    Happy Valentine’s Day.

Oh, and here’s the link for our appearance on KCEN 6 News last night!

  • Don’t forget: Mitchell Park cleanup happening this Saturday!

    Hello Dean Highlanders,

Don’t forget that our bi-monthly Mitchell Park cleaning is happening this Saturday (February 14th). It’s going to be from 10am – noon. Here’s Mitchell Park (3024 Mitchell Ave., Waco, TX 76708) on a map:

In other news, the neighborhood association will be meeting with another reporter, this time from KCEN 6 News, tomorrow to discuss the details of our vision for a park in the Hillcrest hospital spot.

The bi-monthly cleanups that we’ve established this year go hand-in-hand with our advocacy for a “Hillcrest Park.” These cleanups show other groups and interests — including various factions within the City of Waco – that the Dean Highland neighborhood is organized, proud, and willing to do the dirty work of keeping our limited green spaces clean and safe. Please, we’d love to see you this Saturday, if only for a few minutes. Bring your Valentine!

  • We’re back in the news, along with the proposed park site

The neighborhood association and its fight for a park at the Hillcrest hospital spot is back in the news, this time at the Waco Bridge. You can read the whole story here.

  • Mitchell Park cleanup recap (January 31, 2026)

Saturday was cold and windy, but that didn’t stop the neighborhood association from getting outside and taking care of its favorite “pocket park.” We only lasted a little over thirty minutes, but we managed to collect two bags of garbage and decent amount of branches and limbs. Oh, and we found a random bale of hay, too!

Our next scheduled Mitchell Park cleanup is for February 14th (a Saturday). It’ll be from 10am-noon. Check out the pics:

  • First quarterly meeting is in the books; don’t forget about Mitchell Park cleanup tomorrow

    Hello Dean Highlanders,

Our first quarterly meeting of 2026 kicked off with a bang. We were graced by the presence of Waco Police Dept., Waco’s Neighborhood Engagement team, Waco’s Parks & Rec Dept., Highland Baptist Church, For Keeps Coffee (thanks Cameron!), Waco Fire Dept., and Grassroots Waco. And thanks goes, as always, to Dean Highland Elementary School for opening its doors to us.

The neighborhood association also got to update attendees on what our goals are for 2026.

And speaking of goals for the year, tomorrow’s cleanup of Mitchell Park is still on! It’s going to be from 10am – noon. Here’s Mitchell Park (3024 Mitchell Ave., Waco, TX 76708) on a map:

It’s going to be cold, so dress warmly, and don’t forget to bring the kids!

  • Our First Quarterly Meeting is tonight

In a neighborhood news update: we had a water line burst on Wenz Avenue. Here’s some pics:

Thanks to guys at the City for getting on this issue and fixing everything so quickly!
